Danik McAfee

Director

Danik McAfee is a Two-Spirit, Algonquin-mixed and French-Canadian director, educator, and actor committed to reshaping Canadian theatre through innovation, inclusivity, and decolonization. With over a decade of experience, Danik has consistently amplified underrepresented voices and nurtured emerging talent, creating performances that challenge societal norms and celebrate the diverse cultural fabric of Canada. 

A graduate of the National Theatre School of Canada’s prestigious Directing Program, Danik trained under acclaimed directors including Jillian Keiley, Micheline Chevrier, Eda Holmes, and Anita Rochon to name a few. They also hold diplomas in Musical Theatre Performance from Collège Lionel-Groulx and Randolph College for the Performing Arts. Their bilingual career has spanned performance and direction across Canada, with selected credits including: Come From Away (Gander, Associate Director) Les Zinspiré(e)s 12: Le Nombre Sublime (TFT, performer), Beautiful Scars (Theatre Aquarius, Assistant Director, workshop), and The Rocky Horror Picture Show (Capitol Theatre, Frank’N’Furter), etc. 

Danik is equally dedicated to arts education. They have taught Musical Theatre Performance in both Québec and Ontario, and served as Associate Director at Sheridan College, where they helped develop new Canadian musicals through the First Drafts program. Danik is also the Piindigen Program Manager at Theatre Aquarius where they create training opportunities for indigenous artists. Their pedagogical work is guided by a commitment to equity, collaboration, and creative risk-taking, empowering the next generation of theatre artists.
