Kim has performed and taught across the country in Victoria, Toronto and Halifax. Kim is a multifaceted vocalist with a repertoire that spans multiple genres. Her vocal journey began as a young child singing Tin Pan Alley favourites around the piano with her Mum. As a young adult, she discovered how fun karaoke is and how much she loved grabbing a microphone! When Kim began studying at The Victoria Conservatory of Music (VCM), she became hooked on technique and discovered her love for opera.

Before coming to CCPA 6 years ago, Kim taught at her private studio, Vivid Voice, for 13 years. Kim is a graduate of The Royal Conservatory of Music (RCM) and is certified in Somatic Voicework(TM), and The Lovetri Method from the Contemporary Commercial Music (CCM) Vocal Pedagogy Institute at Shenandoah University, Winchester, VA. Kim feels very fortunate to have studied for a number of years under renowned voice pedagogue, Selena James. She is Past President of the Victoria Chapter of The National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS) and is currently on the U-JAM board (Universal Jazz Advocates and Mentors).

Kim is the lead singer for the Commodores Big Band, Victoria’s oldest dance band, formed in 1975. She also has her own ensemble and works with many of Victoria’s wonderful musicians regularly. Other favourite career moments include Grafton Street Dinner Theatre in Halifax and Tryptych Opera and Concert in Toronto. A sampling of Kim’s classical performances include Zia Principessa in Puccini’s Suor Angelica, Miss Todd in Menotti’s The Old Maid and the Thief, Brahms’s Alto Rhapsody, Op. 53 and Robert Fleming’s The Confession Stone.

Kim is passionate about cross-genre technique and training the whole singer; voice science is very exciting frontier territory in this millennium and she actively seeks out professional development opportunities. Kim is very excited to be starting her 6th year at the CCPA!
