Formerly a soloist with the Berlin Ballet and principal of Oakland Ballet Company, Mr. Roland has danced leading roles in all the major classics as well as prominent works of the Balanchine, Béjart, Van Manen, Nureyev, and Panov repertoires.  His choreographic experience spans a gamut of musicals, operas, dance theatre and original ballets such as Ballet Victoria’s inaugural Peter Pan, Alice in Wonderland, Peter and the Wolf, and Fallen Angels. During his dancing career, he was often the preferred partner of Prima Ballerina Assoluta, Eva Evdokimova. Victoria’s Ballet Étoile Canada is a new home for David as a character dancer and choreographer. Several recent contributions to the local dance scene include: dancing lead character M. Dufour in Canadian Pacific Ballet’s Konservatoriet, the Khan in La Source, the Cobbler in The Red Shoes, (Ballet Étoile), the Emperor in The Emperor’s New Clothes (Ballet ZarYevka); choreography for the Pacific Opera production of Don Giovanni, Oklahoma! Dance Medley for the Victoria Symphony, and scenes for a Beatle’s Ballet at the Victoria Butchart Gardens. He received his training at the San Francisco Ballet School, Pacific Ballet Academy, and CalArts. He holds a B.A. from the University of Maryland.
