CCPA Celebrates its 15th With the Biggest Singing, Dancing and Acting Party Greater Victoria Has Ever Seen!
August 9, 2012
VICTORIA – With the launch of its 15th anniversary, the Canadian College of Performing Arts (CCPA) is going big and going UPTOWN!
On Saturday, September 22, the College will host a free public event at UPTOWN. Visitors are invited to observe, or join in short sample classes of dancing, acting and singing. This is the public’s chance to, for example, belt out a Broadway tune, have their very own screen test or take a jazz, tap or ballet class. (Attendees are encouraged to bring sneakers, shorts and/or sweatpants).
“We’ve held a smaller scale version of the event at our Oak Bay location in the past but we wanted to turn it into a real celebration, said College Director Ron Schuster. We want to enjoy our 15th birthday party with the community; who have been so supportive of our school, our performances and our students.”
Every room/tent the Uptown administration team offers us will feature a unique experience and people can move around discovering and experimenting with new skills. In addition, the event will feature performances from emerging artists who are presently students at the college (under the direction of Darold Roles, Artistic and Education Director).
The event will have a wonderful Carnival atmosphere which will be fun for all ages! Throughout the complex there will be roving performers, clowns, improvisation teams and stage fighting demonstrations amidst an array of free classes, prizes and performances! The public can enjoy free popcorn, tea, coffee and other refreshments and there will be clown makeup and face-painting stations for the younger ones. It will be a colorful, entertaining and educational extravaganza.
The Canadian College of Performing Arts (CCPA) is one of Canada’s top training centres for a career in the arts. Over the past 14 years, the Victoria-based College has made a difference in the lives of gifted young artists who have taken major steps towards their goals of becoming performers, teachers and arts leaders in communities across the country. It has also provided Canadian theatre audiences with the opportunity to enjoy top calibre musical theatre productions.
